I'm an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher, and I tutor privately. I've used Skype to tutor, but I don't like it. I have an ad on craigslist, and I get some response, but now I want to network through twitter. I have a twitter account, and I've sent out tweets like, "Do you know anyone in my area who is looking for an English tutor?"

I go to the search page, and, hoping to catch tags from relevant bios, I type in words like "immigrated," "English," "this country" and names indicating my location, and I just get tweets from President Obama, Lady Gaga, etc.

How do I narrow down my tweets and the people I follow?
